Nationals
  by Ed McFadden

Congratulations to the Syracuse Warriors and Coach Mike McFadden and Assistant Coach Mike Coomey, 2008 National Champions of Women's Hockey!!

And not by a small margin. They were the only undefeated team going into the quarter final round. They won 6 games in all, two each day for 3 days running. The scores were 6-3, 4-1, 5-0, 8-1, 3-2 (over Minnesota, the defending national champions, in the semi-final game), and 2-0 over Michigan in the final game tonight.

The cumulative goals for and against were 28-7!!! They are really a dominant team, and the goalie, needless to say, played lights out.

This was their first time in the Championship final round, but it probably won't be their last. They were the best skaters in the tournament and nobody was better at position play or passing.

There will be a write-up on usahockey.com, with additional background on some of the players, all good club players including playing experience at The University of Wisconsin, The University of New Hampshire, Brown University, and others which I can't remember at the moment.

Mike begrudgingly said that he thought they were playing "pretty well", but his most often comment was, "Jeez, the penalties are KILLING us"! So the ride home to Syracuse was probably a fun trip, and their last task now is to build a case for their trophy and banner. Someplace to put it after they all have a beer out of it.
